I offer patient, focused help in algebra through calculus and into university math, as well as algebra-based and calculus-based physics. I can also help with introductory Python coding. I'm an MIT graduate with degrees in physics and philosophy. I teach math and creative problem-solving at a Montessori high school.
As I'm not a fan of prestige pricing, my hourly rate is quite low. Given a modest rate, students and families who need ongoing academic help can more often afford it. Instead of trying to fit everything into a one-hour session, most students find that meeting twice a week allows time to get into, for example, the details of homework and practice exams. Especially once things get a bit intricate, rushing through math is a recipe for frustration.
I work with both remedial and accelerated students. I'm friendly and affirmative to all, creative in my approaches, and I have experience with math anxiety.
My first session with a new student is free of charge. From there we can decide whether the fit is a good one, and if so, what sort of schedule would work best.
For the time being, I continue to tutor remotely through Google Meet, but I'm also available for some in-person appointments at the Southside Branch of the Santa Fe Public Library.
As a math enthusiast with an interest in creative exploration, I’m also available to formal students or casual learners who might want “structure, but not too much structure” in their journey adjacent to or outside of their formal STEM curriculum. I enjoy guiding others who may want to play as much as work; who want to try things in “sandbox mode.” Let me know what curiosity project interests you and I’ll see whether I can help with it!
